Philadelphia – Drexel women's lacrosse defeated Wagner, 16-5, as senior Emily Hoesch (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) scored four goals and added four assists while Kerry Kelly (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) also tallied four times. Drexel's defense held the Seahawks scoreless in the second half in route to the victory. The win improved the Dragons record to 9-3 while Wagner slipped to 2-9.
Wagner got on the board first with a goal from Jessica Ellis before Drexel answered with four straight goals. The teams took turns scoring the rest of the half as the Dragons went into halftime with a 9-5 lead. Drexel would pull away in the second half as the defense stiffened as Rachael Behrndt (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) provided over 17 minutes of scoreless time in the cage while Hoesch and Kelly did their damage on the offensive end. In addition to the senior midfielders, junior Kaitlin Keegan (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) provided three goals and a pair of assists in racking up a season-high five points. Kelly's lone assist on the day came on a goal from Jessica Bill in the second half that gave Kelly 24 assists on the season which broke Drexel's single-season school record. Kelly, who owns the career record for assists at Drexel, leads the Colonial Athletic Association in assists per game.
Lauren LaBella earned the victory in goal for Drexel as she stopped nine Wagner shots. Alex Johnston made eight saves in the first half for the Seahawks while Amy Jones stopped six in the second period.
Drexel returns to CAA play when the Dragons host No. 6 James Madison at Vidas Field on Friday, April 13. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
